MAC’s Mission
Our Story: A Legacy of Love in Motion
The Heart Behind the Mission
At just 15 years old, Makayla Cox possessed a rare type of empathy. When the biting winter air hit Greenville, North Carolina, she didn't just stay inside where it was warm. Instead, Makayla grabbed blankets and plates of food and walked the streets, seeking out anyone experiencing homelessness or falling on hard times. She saw people that others often walked past, and she met them with a bright smile, an open heart, and genuine comfort.
Makayla had a massive heart for helping others. It wasn't something she did for a school requirement or an accolade—it was simply who she was.
Turning Loss into Lasting Hope
When Makayla tragically passed away in December 2025, her absence left an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved her. But true to the spirit she instilled in her family, her mother Jennifer, her sister Jayden, and her brother Shawn knew that the best way to keep her bright light shining was to pick up right where she left off.
They made a sacred promise: Makayla’s tradition of kindness would never stop.
MAC’s Meal Mission (lovingly named after her initials) was born from that promise. What started as a teenager's personal mission to bring warmth to the streets of Pitt County is now a fully operational, 100% family-led initiative dedicated to feeding and protecting our community’s most vulnerable neighbors.
Carrying the Torch in Greenville
Operating right out of the heart of Greenville, we work tirelessly to keep Makayla's vision alive. We don't believe in red tape or barriers to human dignity. Today, the mission manifests through:
24-Hour Emergency Food Access: A walk-up, drive-up pantry where neighbors can access fresh produce, salads, and shelf-stable foods exactly when they need them.
Winter Blanket Distributions: Directly honoring Makayla’s winter walks by supplying high-quality blankets, socks, and personal care items to individuals facing the elements.
Community Meal Events: Setting up community tables to serve hot food, share smiles, and ensure no one feels forgotten.
A Family Promise, Backed by Community
MAC’s Meal Mission is entirely operated by Jennifer, Jayden, and Shawn. We do not have corporate offices or heavy overhead. Every donation, every can of food, and every warm blanket goes straight into the hands of a neighbor in need.
We lost Makayla far too soon, but through this mission, her warmth is still wrapping around the people of Greenville. We invite you to stand with us, keep her legacy moving forward, and ensure that no one in our town has to go cold or hungry.
